Season’s of Life at McHugh’s Miniature Horses

Life continues, excitingly, at McHugh’s Miniature Horse Ranch. This past summer, … babies were born, which now frolic in the pastures finding their way and growing in courage as they mature. Some horses have found new homes to go to,…which can make the lives of other families and their children smile and appreciate all that the miniature breed of horses have to offer.

The joy that these beautiful animals, is just that,…”Pure Joy!” The pleasure that you get from raising such animals is a gift in itself. As the ranch, which originally started out with just a handful of mini’s, became an even bigger blessing. It became an entity to which Ron and Barb McHugh were able to evolve to another season, which was to take them on the road. Their involvement, along with Helen McHugh (Ron’s mother – now passed away) and some of their grandchildren began to tour and show the miniatures, all across the nation. They even took it to the highest level of performance,…which was to become First Place National Champion and Reserve National Champion (along with many other placements) in the Miniature Associations that exist in the horse world.

The next season for ranch became increasing the herd. This would enable them to enjoy all that raising mini’s from birth had to give. The maternity ward at the ranch was hopping. From the fun in delivering them, to naming them, to watching each personality come to life,…added yet another “sparkle” to the seasons at the ranch. As they grew,…it opened up the opportunity to share these experiences with others by holding tours of the ranch. Watching the “awe and amazement” to both young and the young-at-heart- gave just another zest to everyone on the ranch and its’ families, along with all the folks that enjoyed the tours.

And now, after 21 years, yet another season comes upon life at McHugh’s Miniature Horses. That is,…to return to the level of enjoyment and all that it was originally meant to be. Spend an afternoon hitching a couple mini’s to a cart and roaming along our incredible country roads of Marquette County. Loading a few up and going out of town for the weekend to do the same. Spending time with the miniature’s more, enjoying the beautiful ranch, their growing families and all that the seasons of life hold in front of all of us.

Will the ranch still be selling horses? Of course! Will they wander out of the yard to go up to a car that is pulled off the side of the road taking photo’s of their unique beauty? Or maybe a family enjoying the newborns displaying their energy while romping through the pastures? More possible than even in the past!

Will they entertain the fact of continuing in events and parades? Very probable! But with all the joy and all the happiness that life itself has to offer. It brings meaning to the saying,…”It’s not the years in you life that count,…it’s the life in you years that matter most!” So,…with all the love and all the blessings that these magnificent miniatures have to bring,…it’s their time at the ranch to turn that zeal and zest back to being their own pleasure.
